Media Language

All the different elements used to construct any media product.

Soundtrack- what is included?

Soundtrack refers to the collection of songs and musical arrangements played during a movie or television show. A soundtrack can include original songs with lyrics written specifically for the programme, as well as popular songs or instrumental music without words or singing

Mise-en-scene- whats is included?

Mise-en-scène is the stage design and arrangement of actors in scenes for a theatre or film production, both in visual arts through storyboarding, visual theme, and cinematography, and in narrative storytelling through direction.

Establishing shot

A small shot about the location/setting of where they are.

Wide Shot

A lot like a wide shot but it has a person/object in the shot.

Full Shot

Pays attention to the character, taking a shot of their full character.

Medium Full Shot

A lot like full shot but shows the character from the knees up.

Mid Shot

A shot taken at a medium distance from the waist up.

Medium Close Up Shot

A shot taken at the torso to head normally used when 2 characters are talking to each other.

Close Up Shot

A shot taken of just the head of the character normally used for detail to expression.

Soundtrack

Sound track includes ALL sound heard in a film/TV show. Like music, sound effects, dialogue, voiceover.

It can be diegetic or non diegetic.

Diegetic

Sounds in the actual scene.

Non Diegetic

Sounds that got edited in that the actors cant hear like music and voiceovers.

Diegetic Sounds in The Scene

Kicking, Grunting, Falling, Things falling over, Bones snapping , Talking, Screaming

Editing

Includes all the POST PRODUCTION work on a moving image:

  • transitions
  • pace and speed cuts
  • CGI
  • Green Screening
  • Graphics
